“A piece of heaven ” 

 We stayed one night in the Cabbage Tree in May 2009  It's really a home away from home for us. The cottage was so cosy and had everything we need to be very comfortable.   We were really impressed with the attention to details.  The surroundings around the cottage was so quiet, so peaceful, so beautiful. Took a walk during sunset and I really fell in love with the place. I wish I could stay longer. This is the place to go to anytime for a break away from the city. You will feel so at peace here, it's really the place to slow down and smell the roses!

Where To Next

 

Riverdale makes is ideal for breaking your journey further north.  If you've just arrived on your overseas flight into Auckland don't punish yourself with a gruelling chunk of driving - we are just a couple of hours north of Auckland.

 

Allow yourself 3 of 4 days to explore the immediate region.   We  have five round trips mapped out for you - all able to be done in one day.  They take in a variety of sights - The Bay of Islands, Historic Hokianga Harbour, stunning & secluded  East Coast beaches, Romantic Russell, the giant Kauri trees of the Waipoua Forest, Matakohe's world renown Kauri Museum, vineyards, wild shipwreck coastline and gorgeous countryside. 

 

Head further north and maybe break your trip in somewhere like the charming fishing village of Mangonui.  From here you will be able to drive all the way to the top of New Zealand - Cape Reinga, and back comfortably in a day.  There are galleries and cafes to explore as well as the interesting history of the tiny fishing port.  Enjoy the Best Fish & Chips in NZ on the wharf!

 

If you would like to spend a little more time in the Far North consider a night at Ahipara.  Situated at the southern end of the Mighty 90 Mile Beach, renowned for its left hand break, this is a surfer's favourite. Enjoy fabulous sweeping views of the Tasman Ocean.  Watching the sun fall into the sea at sunset is hard to beat!
